Interesting facts about the Laurentian region

Although the Laurentians is a place that Montreal and Laval tourists love to visit, a growing number of people have chosen to move there full-time in the last 40 years. The population has almost doubled between 1986 and 2021, going from 319,541 inhabitants to 636,083.

According to the National Geographic and Smithsonianmagazines, the very first chairlift system in North American was developed in the Laurentians near Prévost (previously called Shawbridge) in 1931. It consisted of a continuous rope that skiers could hang on to and be mechanically pulled up the hill.
